Our skews are made from premium high speed steel, heat treated to 62-64 Rockwell C, and available in several different sizes. The cutting edge is beveled 20 degrees and hollow ground on an 8” diameter wheel before honing to a razor sharp edge. The cutting edge of the gouge has been ground to a gentle radius with a small return at the top, adding versatility for cutting beads and adding details.
The lower corners of the skews have a generous radius to help rolling the tool to make beads and coves. The top edges also has a small radius.
All skews are offered with and without handles. The handles are hard rock Maple, turned to our specification in Pennsylvania with stainless steel ferrules. We also offer a line of collet based tool handles and collet kits – and the rectangular tang of the skews are sized to fit a collet.
