5/8 Detail/Spindle Gouge – Handled

The 5/8″ spindle/detail gouge has a polished flute with a shallow radius. Like our all our gouges, it is made from Nitrided high speed steel. We use the American method of gouge measurement, which means the shank is 5/8″ diameter.
Shipped with a 45 degree grind, many turners sharpen these types of gouges to a sharper angle to get into tighter spots, and some add a secondary bevel for more relief. Many turners who are primarily bowl turners find these much friendlier for spindle turning than using a skew.
The handle is premium hard maple with polyurethane finish and stainless steel ferrule. Also available unhandled.
