A rugged industrial power strip with its own built-in 15-amp circuit breaker. It can be positioned on the front (default) or back of the tailstock leg. It has a 12’ cord that must be plugged into a separate outlet. Handy for powering sanding tools and other powered accessories at the lathe.
Buy it with your lathe, or retrofit later. The Outboard Turning Attachment bolts onto the leg assembly with four bolts. An articulated arm positions and locks in place a 1.5” diameter solid steel bar that holds the toolrest of your choice. Capacity to turn a table top up to 60”.
If you’re just working over the bed and plan to keep your work to less than 16” diameter, you’ll probably be OK with the 1.5HP. Also, if you only have access to the 110 volt electricity, you’ll be restricted to the 1.5HP. But if you have access to 220 and if you plan on taking the gap out and turning larger work, get the 2HP. It is expensive to make this change later on, as both the motor and the drive need to be swapped out.
