Got this nice email and image from well known UK based turner (all though originally an Aussie) Phil Irons recently. Phil has been turning on his Robust lathes for several years now and had these kind words:
"In my thirty year career as a pro turner traveling the world teaching and demonstrating I must have used a good majority of lathes available, some good and others not so good.
Five years ago I found the perfect lathe for me, the American Beauty, it ticks all the boxes and then some.
Being 6’ 7” tall, the ability to set the millimetre perfect spindle height without using packer blocks is huge. Stainless bedways, the tool rest locking mechanism, the tool rests, the ease of changing ratios, the lamp boss, tapping the the tailstock locking lever down, not up, the comfortable knobs on all the locking levers. All these seemingly simple things mean using the lathe is a joy, not a chore. Then there’s the tailstock tiltaway! Wow, that's the best accessory ever to be fitted to a lathe. Mine is up and down like a fiddler’s elbow when I’m creating my hollow forms. It not only makes my job easier but a whole lot safer too. You don’t want drop that tailstock on your foot."
Thanks Phil ! You can see some of Phil's work here: https://www.philironswoodturning.co.uk/
