Jack Harkins lives in the Chicago area. Jack is a pretty ambitious woodturner and a wooden sailboat aficionado as well. Here's what he had to say when he sent us this picture:
"Since I didn’t start turning until I was in my late 60s (on a Jet mini), I felt I was too old to go thru the usual progression of "beginning low-end lathe to last Rolls Royce hi-end lathe" and just cut to the chase with my second tool. It seems a number of older retirees join our DuPage Woodworkers Club every year, and a number of them are turners who would be well advised to go immediately for the best. At least, based on my experience, that's what I suggest."
