There are two Robust lathes to choose from – click the links below for the detailed specifications, and scroll down for features found on all Robust lathes.  

Stainless Steel Ways:  Robust is proud to offer stainless steel ways as standard equipment for all our lathes.  Whether you turn wet wood or exotics, your Robust ways will not rust. 

Spindle: The spindle is pre-hardened 4140 Chrome Moly alloy with an 1 1/4-8 spindle nose drilled and readily equipped for vacuum.  There is a groove for a safety set screw and a #2 Morse taper.

Spindle lock: The spindle lock electronically disconnects the controls when it is engaged.  No more burnt belts when you forget to unlock the spindle.

Bearings:  Heavy duty 6300 series bearings are fitted. They carry 40% more load than leading competitors. That's why Robust is the only manufacturer that warrants the headstock bearings. 

Indexing Handwheel:  Indexing is standard. We incorporated the standard 48 position index function into the highly polished and comfortable handwheel.

Motor and Drives:  We use Leeson motors and quality matched drives. All systems are 220v single phase. The drive can be slowed to a slow creep for operations like applying finishes. Because we use a vector drive, full torque is available at ALL speeds.

Controls: Variable speed and forward/reverse are standard. All the lathe controls are on a corded pendant with a magnetic back.  Place them on the headstock, tailstock, or anywhere else it is convenient for you. 

Sliding Headstock: On the American Beauties, the headstock can be slid the full length of the bed, allowing full access to the work from a variety of natural body positions.  Robustness is ensured by the dual manual lock-downs.

Bed Construction:  Structural steel, 3/8" (9.5mm) thick, 11" (28cm) on the diamond for the 2X25 and 8 1/4" (21cm) for the 18-28.  There is no substitute for sheer mass when turning heavy or out of balance material.  Our structural steel bed provides both mass and outstanding rigidity.  Bed extensions are available to add 24" (61cm) or 38" (122cm) to the center distance. 

Comfortable Center Height:  Adjustable legs easily adjust the spindle height from just under 42" to almost 50".
