The Robust Outboard Turning Attachment bolts directly to the leg of the lathe.   This is a much more secure system than free-standing units, and it is not prone to unexpected movement from accidental bumps or kicks.

Modeled after the very popular Vicmarc outboard turning attachment, the Robust model has an articulated arm that lets you move the tool post almost anywhere behind or in front of the largest piece you might dare to turn.

The tool post itself is made from a 1-1/2 solid steel bar, with an adaptor at the top to take a tool rest with 1" stem.  This helps transfer turning forces directly to the floor and provides some mass to increase stability.

The Outboard Turning Attachment comes with all necessary hardware to mount it to the lathe, but is not supplied with a tool rest.  Any tool rest with a 1" stem will fit.

As you can see in the pictures, the Outboard Turning Rest is compatible with the Tilt Away.
