..............Liberty
The Liberty is a 16" lathe that takes its styling and many of its features from our larger American Beauty lathe. Like its big brother (sister?), the Liberty has a sliding headstock, 1/2" thick stainless steel ways and industrial grade motor and controls. Also like the American Beauty, the headstock is relieved in front, allowing great access to the back of the work, something you won't find on some popular imported lathes. The Liberty can be purchased with a 1-1/2 HP motor in either 110 or 220 volt. The optional 2HP motor is 220 volt only. The base Liberty is a bench lathe. Using a 30" bench will give you a spindle height of about 45". Brackets are provided to attach the lathe to the bench if your purchase your Liberty this way. The model shown on this page is equiped with the optional leg set and Tilt-Away. Like the American Beauty, each leg is made from 3 x 3 square steel tubing and adjusts independently. The apron that holds the leg is made from 7ga. steel. There are lips in the aprons where you can put a shelf to hold tools or add more weight. An animation showing how the optional Tilt-Away works can be seen at the bottom of this page.

The motor drive (aka: "VFD" or "Inverter") can be mounted on the end of the lathe as shown here or on the wall behind the lathe using the same bracket. The spindle RPM is digitally displayed. The spindle lock knob can be see directly below the handwheel, about half way up from the large headstock locking lever. Locking the spindle disconnects the controls, so no more burnt belts if you try to start the lathe with the spindle lock engaged. To move the headstock, lift the large lever, slide the headstock to its new position, and push down on the lever to lock it in place. |

There is no belt changing with the Liberty. Low end torque is ensured the use of a vector style motor drive and further augmented by using a smaller pulley on the motor than on the spindle. High end RPM (2900 max) is derived electronically. 48 position indexing is standard and accessed from inside the headstock as shown in the picture. The Liberty spindle is the same that we use on the larger American Beauty. The headstock, tailstock and banjo are cast iron made from our patterns at Austin Foundry in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. |
The optional Liberty Tilt-Away gets the tailstock completely out of the way and
